The "big boy" bed

Over the past few months, it has become apparent that Ramu needs to start sleeping in his own bed. He is in that awkward, in-between stage with napping (i.e. he only takes his usual afternoon nap about 50% of the time), and his wonky sleep schedule has been taking a toll on Kajal, Sonali, Sangeeta, and any of the other people whose beds he crawls into to sleep at night.

The time has come for Ramu to transition to his very own “big boy" bed. Ramu, however, is rather (read: very) resistant to change. So far, pep talks about how "big boys sleep in their own big boy beds" have had little effect. They tend to go something like this:

Me: "Wow, you're a pretty big boy now, right Ramu?"

Ramu: "Yeah! I'm a big boy!"

Me: "So Ramu, remember how we talked about big boys sleeping in their own big boy beds?"

Ramu (nodding agreeably): "Yeah!"

Me: "Soooo...what do you think about sleeping in your big boy bed tonight? All by yourself like a big boy?"

Ramu (with an expression of mock horror): "Nooooooooo!!! Nonononoooo didi! Not tonight!"

It was time to try a new tactic. So I brought out the big guns this afternoon:
racecar bedsheets. His curiosity was definitely piqued and he (slightly hesitantly) helped me put the sheets on his bed.

Now we just have to wait and see wh
at happens at bedtime tonight...fingers crossed!

  1. Um, let's just say that it's still a work in progress. [Read: he likes the sheets but still refuses to sleep in his own bed.] Ha. Suggestions, anyone!?
